Deep Map Indoor LBS platform for fairs, congresses, and shopping malls A key feature of upcoming mobile web applications is the expedient exploitation of location-based services, including position fixing, navigation, and local search. Location-based services (LBS) aim at supporting people in everyday situations. They are provided by context- and location-aware applications. Heidelberg mobil International (HDM-I) offers the Deep Map LBS platform, focusing on the special requirements of a mobile user. Relevant information is easily accessible. The relevance of information correlates with the user’s requirements and location, as well as the current time. The system detects the current location of the user automatically, and information is accessible with just a few clicks. In indoor scenarios, accurate geoinformation is crucial as context-aware services have to adapt to continuous changes in real time. The link between dynamic geodata and a user’s needs is the main challenge in indoor LBS. Deep Map is a web-based software platform providing locationbased services to pedestrians in various indoor situations, e.g.: WHAT MAKES VDI NACHRICHTEN FOR ENGINEERS GERMANY’S MOST EXCITING WEEKLY NEWSPAPER? * SEE FOR YOURSELF. ❯ Fair grounds ❯ Congress halls ❯ Shopping malls ❯ Airports ❯ Train stations The Deep Map platform facilitates both mobile and desktop access and renders the requested data accordingly. In addition, Deep Map Venue represents the next generation of trade show catalogues, enabling dynamic promotion campaigns and providing information that is constantly up-to-date and accessible via mobile devices on-site. Users can prepare their visits conveniently at home. At the trade show, they can then access their pre-selected agenda via their mobile devices and link their notes and contacts precisely to the booths on the floor plan. Deep Map Venue will also guide visitors through hall B1 at SYS- TEMS 2008. http://deepmap.mobi www.hdm-i.com news © HDM-I Bardenheuer GmbH has expertise in the automotive, the security, and in particular the telecommunications industries. The telecommunication industry is continually undergoing revolutionary changes. The converg ence of mobile and fixed communic ation, the end-users demand for additional applications, such as secure digital networks (TETRA, TETRAPOL, GSM-BOS etc), Triple Play, new access networks, such as satellite, optical fibre, cable, broadband mobile – all these trends challenge the players on the global telecommunication market and force them to flexibility, including significant changes in their technical and commercial approach. New applications demand new business cases and new alliances between companies that had hitherto nothing in common. The same applies to organisations that are in need of a reliable, fast, ubiquitous radio system, such as digital trunked radio. Public safety, transportation, government, industrial parks, utility companies, and the armed forced must be able to rely on their mobile communication system. Implementing a secure digital mobile network such as TETRA system is a very complex project. It starts with the identification of the required applications and functionalities, includes the selec tion of the vendor and the procurement process, and the implementation of the system. The final, but very important and demanding step is the continuous operation and maintenance of the network. In all these phases, support by an experienced partner is an im- Knowing exactly what is packed in a shipping space is quite complicated today. The packer usually has to follow predetermined packing plans. In practice, however, variations in packing occur. Additionally, unloading and loading cargo on the driver’s route makes it virtually impossible to find unused shipping capacity that could be used for assigning new requests. The realtime load volume tracking system LoVoTrack addresses these problems. Specialised hardware within the container or truck determines exactly how much shipping capacity is still available. This information is combined with the truck’s current position and sent to the transport management system via GSM/GPRS to accommodate adhoc transport requests from customers. Companies now have the ability to quickly assign new orders to available capacities nearby. In summary, LoVoTrack enables logistics companies to respond faster in picking up shipments from customers, implement usage-dependent billing, save cost and reduce CO2 footprints. ubigrate won the T-Systems/DHL special topic prize in the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2008. www.ubigrate.com Special issue: Navigation World 2008 No. 3 – October 21 st , 2008 Communicate with Ultimate Perfection With the Support of Bardenheuer GmbH! The Bardenheuer GmbH, located in Munich, with offices in Berlin, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, and San Diego, is a software- and system house, specialized in individual consulting and software development. We are seen by our customers as a stable and innovative partner and accompany them during the whole lifecycle of the projects, starting with the analysis of the requirements, proceeding to the procurement or development, and supporting them during operation. Today, Logistics is a highly automated and optimised business. However, increasing resource costs (e.g. fuel price) make it necessary to keep searching for potential process optimisations. One area is the improvement of shipping capacity utilisation. The software company ubigrate of Dresden, Germany, is specialised in the integration of intelligent devices into business processes. The solution LoVoTrack provides a real-time view of the position and available capacity of trucks and containers. It bundles tourist media content (audio and video), a 3D model of museums (indoor and outdoor), and a location technology that is compatible with standard mobile phones and relies on a smart coupling between WiFi and GNSS pseudolites. MyVisit is targeted at museums and other touristic buildings, enabling the visitor to use his or her own mobile phone instead of a dedicated terminal rented in the museum. This form of use is actually a continuation of the phone’s navigation functions from outside the location in question.
